| Officer Matthew Berchert of the Midland Police Department All we have to do is watch the news or pick-up a newspaper to realize that identity theft is becoming an increasing problem everywhere; tens of thousands of people in the U.S. have their identity stolen every year. As the holiday season quickly approaches, most of us will be putting ourselves at risk to identity theft each time we order a gift on-line, or pull out a credit or debit card in a store. And those are just a few examples of how we can become a victim of this crime. We are fortunate that the Midland Police Department has someone on hand to talk to the community about identity theft. Officer Matthew Berchert spoke with us on November 8th to help us become more vigilant against this crime and hopefully avoid becoming a victim. Many thanks to Officer Berchert for his insight and suggestions! |
